Suncheon-si, Creating an Ecological Village Garden Together with Urban Regeneration Residents

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Suncheon City in Jeonnam announced on the 17th that it plans to create an urban regeneration-type village garden through resident participation near Jeojeon-dong (Districts 3 and 4), an urban regeneration New Deal area (general neighborhood type).

The "urban regeneration-type village garden" is a project to create community gardens in everyday spaces that bring vitality to the village through participation tailored to residents' perspectives in daily life.

To this end, the city will lower fences throughout the alleys, demolish small rooms to create gardens, and reflect residents' opinions for the use of alleyways, rooftops, building walls, and more.

The spaces for creating village gardens include not only public land but also private property. Residents of the project target area who wish to participate can visit the Jeojeon Urban Regeneration Field Center and submit an application by the 21st.

If selected for the village garden creation, participants can individually design the garden with the help of professional gardeners, and directly create and maintain the garden together with on-site construction companies.

Additionally, those who have won awards at domestic or international garden-related events, or professionals working in landscaping fields, can participate as garden artists to design or construct gardens by gathering residents' opinions.

Yang Hyojeong, Director of Urban Regeneration, said, "Creating village gardens is about realizing the vision of the village community based on mutual understanding and cooperation among residents," and urged active participation from residents.
