Terror Attacks Continue in Northeastern Syria Controlled by Turkish Forces... 2 Civilians Dead

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jaehee] Vehicle bomb attacks continue in northeastern Syria, controlled by the Turkish military.

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced on the 17th (local time) that "terrorists from the Kurdistan Workers' Party and the Kurdish militia carried out a vehicle bomb attack in Tal Abyad, resulting in the deaths of 2 innocent civilians and injuries to 5 others."

The Ministry added, "The terrorists were captured alive along with their accomplice who came to carry out a second vehicle bomb attack."

The Kurdistan Workers' Party is a Kurdish separatist armed organization within Turkey, which Turkish authorities consider the greatest security threat within the country.

Last October, Turkey launched the "Operation Peace Spring," crossing the Syrian border east of the Euphrates River, claiming that the Kurdish militias controlling northeastern Syria were a Syrian branch of the Kurdistan Workers' Party.

Turkey occupied approximately a 120 km section between the Syrian border towns of Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ayn and halted the operation on the condition that the Kurdish militias withdraw 30 km away from the Turkey-Syria border.

However, attacks by anti-Turkish Kurdish forces continue in northeastern Syria.

In particular, in Tal Abyad, a battleground of the Syrian Democratic Forces, mainly composed of the Turkish military and Kurdish militias, civilian casualties have continued this year, including vehicle bomb attacks on the 30th of last month and the 9th of this month.
