Boseong-gun Launches May Integrated Grand Festival to Captivate South Korea

‘Wellness Tourism in Boseong in May’ Night Program Greatly Expanded

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Yong-chul] Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 17th that it will hold an integrated festival capturing the spirit of May in Korea for five days from May 1 to May 5.

Under the theme of "Wellness Tourism in Boseong in May," this integrated festival will feature tea (cha), sound, azaleas, live fish catching, and Boseong Citizens' Day events held simultaneously.

The event will begin with a pre-festival on April 30, followed by ▲ Citizens' Day event (May 1), ▲ Boseong Dahyang Grand Festival (May 1 to 5), ▲ Boseong World Tea Expo (May 1 to 5), ▲ Seopyeonje Boseong Sound Festival (May 1 to 3), ▲ Yulpo Beach Live Fish Catching Festival (May 2 to 5), and ▲ Illimsan Azalea Cultural Event (May 2 to 5), all held concurrently, transforming the entire county into one big festival ground.

On the 14th, the county formed the 46th Boseong Dahyang Grand Festival Promotion Committee (37 members), centered around tea producers' groups and tea culture organizations, setting the direction and basic plans to kick off the event with strong momentum.

This festival is notable for significantly expanding nighttime programs to create a festival enjoyable both day and night. Every day during the festival, from 6:30 PM, special performances featuring master singers, 70s and 80s singers, idols, and trot artists will brightly illuminate Boseong at night, appealing to various generations.

Boseong’s representative festival, ▲ Boseong Dahyang Grand Festival, includes programs such as the Dashinje ritual, tea leaf picking, Korean famous tea selection contest, and student tea etiquette competition. ▲ Seopyeonje Boseong Sound Festival will feature nationwide pansori and gosu competitions and an open concert for citizens. ▲ Yulpo Beach Live Fish Catching Festival offers a live fish catching experience once daily (at 2 PM), and at Illimsan, the nation’s largest azalea habitat, a feast of red flowers will begin.

A Boseong-gun official said, “By integrating the schedules of five festivals, we have prepared a rich festival program. We hope visitors to Boseong in May will create unforgettable memories.”

Meanwhile, the Boseong Dahyang Grand Festival was promoted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Best Festival in the shortest time in 2019, and this year it was selected as a cultural tourism festival, receiving national funding and domestic and international promotional support from the Korea Tourism Organization for two years.
