Assemblyman Son Geum-ju Announces Senior Welfare Pledge to Eliminate Retirement Worries

"With Senior-Customized Pledges, Creating a Happy Naju·Hwasun for Seniors"

Assemblyman Son Geum-ju Announces Senior Welfare Pledge to Eliminate Retirement Worries

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Son Geum-ju, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Naju·Hwasun, Jeonnam, member of the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Special Committee and the Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Maritime Affairs Committee), announced on the 18th a senior citizen pledge focused on customized policies for the centenarian era.

Representative Son promised tailored policies for the elderly, including creating various jobs through attracting local companies and the public sector, strengthening the elderly care system by establishing senior centers and silver cultural spaces, renovating senior citizen centers, implementing visiting sports services at senior centers, opening 'dementia counseling rooms' at senior welfare centers and local health centers, introducing ICT-based safety care services for elderly living alone, and introducing circular buses and taxis in towns and townships with weak public transportation.

Son said, “South Korea has not escaped the stigma of having the highest elderly poverty rate and elderly suicide rate among OECD member countries. Our region is also rapidly aging, but preparations have been relatively slow, causing difficulties for the elderly. It is a natural respect to properly honor the elderly who have made today’s Korea possible. Through the senior citizen customized pledge, I will make Naju·Hwasun a happy place for the elderly.”

Meanwhile, through the 20th National Assembly, Representative Son has worked to improve elderly welfare by establishing free legal services for marginalized groups such as elderly living alone, expanding the scope of the Long-Term Care Insurance for the Elderly, and securing budgets for support.
