President Moon Appoints Lawyer Lee Seung-taek as Member of the Central Election Commission Lee Seung-taek, Nominee for Member of the National Election Commission


[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] On the 17th, President Moon Jae-in nominated Lee Seung-taek, a lawyer at the law firm Daeryuk Aju (age 56, passed the 32nd Judicial Examination), as a member of the Central Election Commission.


Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for the Blue House, stated in a written briefing that day, "The nominee is a legal professional who worked as a judge for over 20 years and is currently practicing as a lawyer," adding, "During his tenure as a judge, he was evaluated as handling cases rationally and making rulings solely based on legal principles without being swayed by external influences in trials related to social issues." He further explained the background of the appointment and added, "We expect him to fulfill his duties fairly and transparently as a member of the Central Election Commission."


The nominee is scheduled to be appointed after a confirmation hearing in the National Assembly.


He graduated from Dongguk University High School, earned a law degree from Yonsei University, and obtained a master's degree in law from the same university. He has served as an Air Force legal officer, a research judge at the Supreme Court, chief judge at the Seoul Administrative Court, and head of the Jinju branch of the Changwon District Court.
