Candidate Kim Myung-jin said, "Recent remarks and behaviors that belittle and distort the May 18 incident, such as Hwang Kyo-ahn's outrageous comments, Lee Jong-myung's trick expulsion, neglect of May 18 distortion in game content, and Ji Man-won's release without detention, have continuously provoked anger not only among the citizens of Gwangju but also the public," and insisted, "Strong legal sanctions must be put in place to prevent any further attempts to distort and belittle May 18 from gaining ground."
He added, "Marking the 40th anniversary of May 18, I hope the 20th National Assembly remembers its final duty and shows a commendable conclusion."
