Temporary Closure of Gwangju Postal Sorting Center Due to COVID-19 Ends, Operations Resume

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Regional Post Office of the Korea Post (Director Cho Haegun) announced on the 17th that the Gwangju Postal Sorting Center will resume operations.

The Gwangju Postal Sorting Center was temporarily closed on the 4th after the 22nd confirmed COVID-19 case had worked there.

The decision to resume operations at the Gwangju Postal Sorting Center was made considering that the 22nd confirmed case tested negative twice consecutively after symptom improvement and was released from quarantine, no employees showed fever or respiratory symptoms, and the Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that if surfaces exposed to the confirmed case are thoroughly disinfected, the possibility of infection is virtually nonexistent.

During the suspension period, the Jeonnam Regional Post Office handled mail distribution through the Central Region Wide-area Postal Logistics Center and the Yeongam Postal Sorting Center.

With this resumption, all mail services will return to normal.

Accordingly, all inconveniences caused during the temporary closure period, such as restrictions on accepting parcels bound for Gwangju, are expected to be resolved.

Director Cho Haegun of the Jeonnam Regional Post Office stated, “We will continue to actively implement infectious disease prevention measures such as disinfecting the office building, requiring mask-wearing for counter staff, and providing hand sanitizers,” and added, “We will maintain a comprehensive response system to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and do our best to ensure that postal services are not disrupted.”
