Yu Gijun and Jeong Gap-yun, Senior PK Members, Also Announce Withdrawal from Constituency Elections

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Senior members from Busan-Gyeongnam (PK), including Yoo Ki-joon and Jung Gap-yoon, have announced their decision not to run in their constituencies.

On the 17th, Representative Yoo held a press conference at the National Assembly Press Hall to make this announcement. He said, "I have decided not to run in the 21st general election in my constituency," adding, "I bow my head in gratitude to the residents of Seo-gu and Dong-gu in Busan, party comrades, and the people who have supported and encouraged me."

He explained, "Looking back over the past four years, it has been a series of sleepless nights. Since entering politics, I have done my best, but I failed to provide hope and inspiration to the people, and I could not prevent the division of conservatives, which led to the unprecedented impeachment crisis that we did not respond to properly."

Representative Yoo stated, "The Moon administration that was launched in such a way devastated South Korea's economy and diplomatic security, the suffering of the people is increasing day by day, and the future of South Korea is bleak. Conservative unification to stop the arrogance and dogmatism of the Moon administration is the people's mandate, and I throw myself into this to open the way for generational change through new talent recruitment. I will become a seed for victory in the general election."

He added, "I will become a cornerstone for the coming future generations," and said, "The achievements and faults of former President Park Geun-hye will be judged by history, but it is heartbreaking that she is serving a three-year prison sentence, and I hope she will be released soon."

Following this, Representative Jung also said, "I have gone through much deliberation and anguish before making this decision," and announced, "I declare that I will not run in the 21st National Assembly election." He emphasized, "As a five-term member of the National Assembly, I have devoted myself entirely to South Korea, the people, and Ulsan. For the party, whenever and wherever, in any position, I have taken responsibility and made sacrifices whenever the party was in crisis."

Representative Jung said, "At this moment, deciding not to run is a path to repay the grace with a heart that puts the party before oneself, supported and loved by many. I choose South Korea over myself."
