[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Lexus launched the facelifted model of its flagship sports utility vehicle (SUV), the 'RX,' on the 17th. The new RX, released for the first time in four years since 2016, has enhanced marketability with a sophisticated exterior design, a hybrid engine that balances efficiency and performance, and various convenience features.

The front design of the new RX features a horizontal spindle grille changed to an L-shaped block mesh pattern. Additionally, the triple LED headlamps and refined lower bumper design create a sharper impression. The rear emphasizes a wide and solid image by lowering the lower part of the bumper.

The interior uses wood, leather, and metal materials to evoke the premium SUV feel.

The hybrid model is equipped with a 3.5ℓ V6 D-4S hybrid engine technology that combines port injection and direct injection methods. The AWD (all-wheel drive) system automatically adjusts front and rear torque distribution from 100:0 to 50:50, driving efficiently with front-wheel drive under normal conditions and distributing torque to the rear wheels on slippery surfaces.

Lexus increased the body rigidity of the new RX. It also newly introduced Active Cornering Assist (ACA) to enable comfortable driving even on winding roads.

It also comes with various convenience features. The 12.3-inch touchscreen display, smartphone holder, and USB charging port on the rear of the center console box enhance convenience. Furthermore, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functions allow smartphone features to be used directly on the display, improving the usability of the multimedia system.

The third-row seats can be power-folded to expand trunk space or accommodate more passengers as needed. Notably, the seats are designed in a theater-style arrangement with different heights from the first to the third row, securing passengers' sightlines.

Lee Byung-jin, Managing Director of Lexus Korea, said, "The fundamentally solid RX has been upgraded with a sleeker and more sophisticated exterior design, improved suspension structure, and enhanced convenience features," adding, "We hope customers experience the new charm of Lexus with the new RX, leading the change in premium hybrid SUVs."

The prices are set at 82.1 million KRW for the hybrid RX450h Supreme and 90.7 million KRW for the Executive. The gasoline RX350 Executive is priced at 84.5 million KRW. The newly added RX450hL (third-row seats, long body) is scheduled to go on sale from the 18th of next month.
