[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Ministry of Economy and Finance announced on the 17th that a government delegation led by First Vice Minister Kim Yong-beom will depart for the United States to attend the World Bank (WB) 'Korea Innovation Week' event.


The Korea Innovation Week event, held from the 18th to the 20th at the WB headquarters in Washington DC, USA, is expected to be attended by about 140 people from nine government agencies including the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor, as well as approximately 49 public institutions and private companies. From the World Bank, Secretary-General Shaolin Yang, Vice President of the East Asia and Pacific Region Victoria Kwakwa, key officials from various departments, and project managers will participate.


The government plans to promote Korea's outstanding innovation and technology sectors and the achievements of cooperation between Korea and the WB at this event. Additionally, it aims to share Korea's innovation and technology experiences in the process of economic development to enhance the effectiveness of support for developing countries.


During the event, eight exhibition halls themed on Korean innovation and technology will be set up to interact with WB officials responsible for related projects.


The eight booths will be themed around smart cities, virtual reality (VR) lounges, digital economy and fifth-generation mobile communications (5G), innovation and entrepreneurship, education and technology, green innovation, Korea-WB partnership, and Korea's development history. Various workshops will also introduce excellent cases utilizing Korean innovation and technology and explore future cooperation plans.


Meanwhile, Vice Minister Kim will hold an 'Investor Roundtable' in New York, USA, on the 19th to explain this year's Korean economic outlook and economic policies. He will also visit the headquarters of the international credit rating agency S&P to meet with senior officials responsible for the country's credit rating.
