[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] A durability test video has been released showing that even if a hole is punched in the Galaxy Z Flip screen, the LCD screen does not completely break. When the Galaxy Z Flip was unfolded and bent backward, the bezel popped up, but the internal display did not crack.

On the 16th (local time), Jack Nelson, who runs the YouTube channel 'JerryRigEverything,' conducted durability tests on the Galaxy Z Flip by scratching the product with a Mohs hardness tester and bending the Galaxy Z Flip backward. Some foreign media pointed out that the ultra-thin glass on the Galaxy Z Flip was covered with a plastic protective film, making it vulnerable to scratches, and questioned whether it was truly glass. Jack Nelson said in the latter part of the video, "It is resistant to scratches."

Jack Nelson scratched the screen with the pointed end of the Mohs hardness tester and his fingernail. At level 2, there were slight marks, and from level 3, clear scratches appeared on the display. He also held a lighter flame close to the internal screen, but the screen did not melt or break; instead, a brownish soot mark appeared.

IT specialist media The Verge stated, "The Galaxy Fold used a plastic display that could be easily scratched with a fingernail, but the Z Flip, which uses glass material, is thinner and was expected to have better long-term durability. However, it left permanent marks or scratches more easily than actual glass." They added, "In Jack Nelson's previous videos, scratches appeared from level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale, but the Galaxy Z Flip started to show damage from level 2."

When a hole was made in the screen with a level 5 awl, vertical lines appeared on the display, and scratching that area caused black stains on the internal screen. However, the screen was not completely broken.

NineToFiveGoogle pointed out, "It showed that the screen can be easily scratched even with everyday use," and added, "Initial damage occurred on the ultra-thin glass protective screen, and the user experience is no different from existing foldable phones."

After unfolding the Galaxy Z Flip and bending the phone more than 180 degrees, the plastic bezel surrounding the display was torn off. However, the internal display was not damaged, and when folded, the front glass material cracked. Even after sand was sprinkled on the internal display and the screen was closed and opened, the touch function was recognized.

Regarding this, Samsung told The Verge, "Ultra Thin Glass is different from the components applied to previous Galaxy flagship smartphones, and care must be taken when bending the display," and explained, "The Galaxy Z Flip has a protective screen layered over the Ultra Thin Glass."
