Diagnosis and Consulting for Pollutant Reduction Targeting 19 Regional SMEs
Environmental Technology Diagnosis Improves 92 Cases of Air and Water Quality Management
Plan to Expand to 50 Companies in Regions with Power Plants Nationwide by 2020
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea East-West Power announced on the 17th that it conducted the 'Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) Environmental Management Mentorship Project' last year targeting 19 SMEs in the Ulsan region, discovering and improving 92 cases of environmental management deficiencies.
The mentorship project was promoted to prevent environmental pollution accidents at local SMEs lacking environmental management personnel and capabilities, and to reduce pollutants causing fine dust such as sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and dust.
Among the 92 environmental management deficiencies found in the 19 SMEs, deficiencies in air environment management and waste management were the most frequent, with 35 cases each. Water environment and chemical substance management deficiencies were also discovered, with 11 cases each.
Of the 92 cases, 10 cases (improvements to air pollutant prevention facilities) were linked with the 'Small-scale Prevention Facility Installation Support Project,' funded by the government in cooperation with the Ulsan Green Environment Support Center, to enable improvements to environmental equipment.
East-West Power significantly reduced the investment burden for environmental facilities of SMEs through the project, encouraging active participation in environmental conservation.
During each diagnosis, on-site training was provided to environmental management personnel, and simple environmental regulation checklists, guidebooks for diagnosis, and control supplies were also supported.
This year, the target of the environmental management mentorship project will be expanded to more than 50 SMEs, including those near power plants nationwide. Additional diagnoses and consulting will be provided to SMEs supported last year to continuously enhance their environmental management capabilities.
An East-West Power official stated, "Through technology transfer and consulting on environmental management for local SMEs, we expect to contribute together to regional environmental conservation and realize social values of growing together."
