"Iphone Design Is All the Same... Attracted to Z Flip Design"
Self-Operated Models Out of Stock, Must Wait About a Month
Stores Crowded with Visitors Despite COVID-19 Concerns
Active Experiences Like 24-Hour Galaxy S20 Rental 'Galaxy To Go'
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] "I've only used iPhones until now, but the Galaxy Z Flip is so pretty that I ended up buying it. The camera is better than I expected, and I really like the design?it rivals the iPhone." (Lee, a worker in her 20s)
The Galaxy Z Flip has captivated even iPhone users. Moving beyond being a gadget exclusive to early adopters, it encourages 'switching to Galaxy' by adding portability, vibrant colors, and a new user experience.
On the afternoon of the 16th, despite the snowy weather, the Hongdae Digital Plaza store was bustling with people eager to try out the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy S20. Wherever the Galaxy Z Flip was displayed, couples and foreigners lined up, closely watching the person in front of them try the device. Some customers were seen folding the Galaxy Z Flip, placing it on the table, spreading their palms wide, and taking selfies. Female customers expressed amazement, saying "Awesome," as they held and unfolded the Z Flip. At the Galaxy S20 booth, the Ultra model was by far the most popular, with many people zooming in with the camera to explore various parts of the store.
Foreign tourists and couples were lining up to experience the Galaxy Z Flip at the Digital Plaza store.
◆ Galaxy Z Flip Captivates Even iPhone Users = iPhone users are also enthusiastic about the Galaxy Z Flip. Lee, a woman in her 30s, said, "I was waiting for the next iPhone, but the iPhone designs are all pretty much the same now. The Galaxy Z Flip attracts me because of its unique design." She added, "The price isn't as high as I thought, and although I'm somewhat concerned about the camera performance and durability, the convenience of carrying it is a big advantage." While the Galaxy Fold targeted early adopters who prefer large screens, the Galaxy Z Flip is drawing in women and iPhone users as well.
The unlocked model of the Galaxy Z Flip has sold out both online and offline, and customers must wait at least a month to receive the product. A Samsung store employee explained, "The first batch of unlocked models has all been sold out, so customers will have to wait until mid-March, and online restocks are expected after March 20. Carrier models can be activated immediately."
◆ Visitors Continue Despite COVID-19 Concerns = Contrary to expectations that foot traffic would decrease due to COVID-19, visitors continued to come to offline stores. Employees wore masks while explaining the devices to customers. Hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes were placed throughout the store, and since many products require hands-on experience, many customers wiped the devices before touching them. Since the 14th, the Digital Plaza has also been operating Galaxy Studio, where visitors can try out features such as taking photos and videos with the Galaxy S20, gaming, and music sharing.
Samsung Electronics is also offering the 'Galaxy To Go' service, allowing customers to experience the Galaxy S20, which will be released on the 6th of next month, in advance. Visitors who bring their ID to Digital Plaza and learn Galaxy S20 usage tips can carry and use the product for 24 hours. Starting from the 19th, a delivery service is also available to receive the device at a desired location. A store representative said, "Originally, the rental period was only 5 hours, but it has been extended to 24 hours this year. Reservations can be made at any time on weekdays."
