According to Chinese media on the 17th, Hubei Province, the epicenter of COVID-19, reported 1,933 new confirmed cases and 100 new deaths in a single day.
The previous day, the Chinese government announced that the total confirmed cases in China were 68,500, with 1,665 deaths. Simply adding the figures from Hubei Province means the number of confirmed cases surpasses 70,000 and deaths exceed 1,700. Figures from regions outside Hubei have not yet been released.
However, according to the announcement the previous day, the number of confirmed cases and deaths outside Hubei is expected to be relatively small. According to the National Health Commission of China, confirmed cases outside Hubei Province were 166, with 3 deaths.
