[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) is actively promoting a system that assigns detailed addresses including building, floor, and unit numbers ex officio for the convenience of residents in multi-family houses and one-room apartments.

Unlike apartments and multiplex houses where building, floor, and unit numbers are recorded in the building register, one-room apartments and multi-family houses generally do not have detailed addresses that distinguish individual households within the building.

If residents want to have these recorded, building owners or tenants had to apply separately, which was inconvenient.

Accordingly, the district will conduct a basic survey targeting multi-family houses and one-room apartments without detailed addresses and assign detailed addresses directly. The survey will be conducted through verification of official documents such as the building register and on-site visits to check entrances for each unit.

After the survey, the district will assign road name detailed addresses and notify owners and tenants, allowing a 30-day period for submitting opinions.

The changed addresses will be notified in writing, and thereafter, if residents report corrections to their resident registration at the local community service center, the building, floor, and unit numbers will be recorded on official documents such as resident registration certificates and abstracts.

The district plans to distribute signboards with detailed addresses free of charge so that residents can use the road name detailed addresses more efficiently.

A district official stated, “Residents’ receipt of mail and packages will become more convenient, and rapid response will be possible in emergencies, thus resolving residents’ inconveniences. We will continue to explore various ways for residents to conveniently use road name addresses in daily life.”
