[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 16th, Park In-sook, a member of the Liberty Korea Party, announced her intention not to run in the April 15 general election.

At a press conference held at the National Assembly's Press Hall that day, Park said, "I have devoted my body and mind throughout my life as a doctor, scholar, and educator outside the political sphere, but suddenly entered politics eight years ago. I have carried out legislative activities while receiving the trust and love of the residents of Songpa-gap, and now I believe it is time to step down."

She became choked up and was momentarily unable to continue speaking as she announced her decision not to run.

Park explained her reason, saying, "I have worked hard and reflected for the Liberty Korea Party's reform and as a conservative party. Like Nancy Pelosi, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Michael Bloomberg, who continue in politics well into their 70s and approaching 80, I have devoted my utmost efforts as a female politician, but I judged that the political reality in the Republic of Korea no longer allows this."

She added, "This general election is extremely important to protect the Republic of Korea from the Moon administration for the success of the United Future Party. Lastly, I deeply thank the residents of Songpa-gap and party members who elected me twice."

When asked if she was considering moving to the Future Korea Party, she said, "That is really not the case," and asked for understanding of her sincere intentions. When a reporter asked if she would consider moving if the party needed her, she replied, "I don't think the party would do that."

She emphasized, "If a good person comes to win the general election, I will actively support them. Our region has never been lost by the Korea Party. Although Songpa-eul was lost, Songpa-gap has never been lost."
