Hyundai Motor Company announced that on the 14th, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a hydrogen electric truck pilot project between Hyundai Motor Company and Yeosu Gwangyang Port Corporation. [Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor Company and Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority have joined hands to commercialize hydrogen fuel cell trucks for logistics transportation.
On the 16th, Hyundai Motor announced that on the 14th, Lee In-cheol, Head of Hyundai Motor's Commercial Vehicle Division, and Gil In-hwan, Head of Operations at Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority, attended and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the 'Hyundai Motor-Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Hydrogen Fuel Cell Truck Pilot Project.'
The agreement includes developing and demonstrating hydrogen fuel cell trucks for logistics transportation, installing hydrogen charging stations, and jointly exploring the establishment of hydrogen mobility and revitalization of the hydrogen economy at Gwangyang Port.
Accordingly, Hyundai Motor will develop and pilot operate hydrogen fuel cell trucks to expand the application of hydrogen fuel cells, while Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority will support the pilot project by providing sites for hydrogen charging stations within Gwangyang Port.
Hyundai Motor plans to develop hydrogen fuel cell trucks, initially introducing two units by 2023 and adding ten more the following year.
The hydrogen fuel cell trucks will operate on a round-trip route of approximately 320 km from Gwangyang Port to Busan.
Additionally, Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority will provide a site of about 2,000 square meters for building a hydrogen charging station and support the establishment of one hydrogen charging station within Gwangyang Port by 2022.
