On the 16th, the Hubei Provincial Health Commission disclosed the number of additional COVID-19 deaths and tested individuals from the previous day. The number of newly confirmed cases increased by 1,843 in one day. Deaths increased by 139. Among the confirmed cases, 888 were classified as confirmed through clinical diagnosis.
Earlier, on the 12th, Hubei Province began classifying patients diagnosed clinically through clinical findings and lung computed tomography (CT) as confirmed cases for the first time. After 14,840 additional confirmed cases were classified at that time, the number of additional confirmed cases has shown a slowing trend.
Among the 139 patients who died the previous day, 110 were residents of Wuhan City.
As a result, the cumulative number of patients in Hubei Province is 56,249 (39,462 in Wuhan City), and deaths are counted at 1,596 (1,233 in Wuhan City).
Among these, 39,447 are currently undergoing treatment. There are 8,439 severe cases and 1,957 critical cases. Additionally, 74,261 people are under medical observation.
Meanwhile, when nationwide statistics for China are announced, the total number of confirmed cases is expected to exceed 70,000. The Chinese government announced the previous day that the total cumulative confirmed cases in China were 66,492 and deaths were counted at 1,523.
