Fire at Dongbu Steel in Dangjin, Chungnam... No Casualties, Mopping Up Remaining Flames (Comprehensive)

[Asia Economy (Naepo) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The fire at Dongbu Steel in Dangjin, Chungnam is entering the final stage of extinguishment without any casualties.

According to the Chungnam Fire Department on the 15th, the fire is believed to have initially occurred around 1:31 PM at the water treatment facility inside KG Dongbu Steel Plant located in Songak-eup, Dangjin-si, Chungnam, during the process of dismantling a cooling water device.

The Dangjin Fire Station received reports from citizens that thick black smoke was filling the area near the steel plant along with flames at the early stage of the fire, and dispatched equipment and personnel to the scene.

Additionally, the Asan and Seosan Fire Stations, Central 119 Rescue Team, and the Metropolitan Mobile Unit were deployed to the firefighting site, and the major flames were extinguished about 27 minutes after the dispatch.

The fire authorities are currently conducting mop-up operations and investigating the cause of the fire, and no casualties have been reported due to the fire.

A representative from the Dangjin Fire Station said, "(As of 2:45 PM) All flames inside the steel plant have been extinguished, and final extinguishing operations are underway," adding, "The exact cause of the fire will be confirmed through investigation."
