[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Among the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infected individuals on the cruise ship 'Diamond Princess' docked in Japan, 11 are reported to be in serious condition, according to NHK and other foreign media on the 15th.


According to Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, out of 713 people aboard the Diamond Princess who were tested for COVID-19 by the 13th, 218 tested positive. The cruise ship, which docked at Yokohama Port on the 3rd, had approximately 3,700 people on board, including passengers·and crew members.


Those confirmed infected are being sequentially transferred to medical institutions. Among them, 11 are in serious condition and are receiving treatment in the intensive care unit. One cruise ship passenger who tested negative for COVID-19 is also reported to be in serious condition.


One firefighter who was responsible for transporting COVID-19 patients from the cruise ship was also confirmed infected the previous day. Accordingly, including 8 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, the total number of infected people in Japan has increased to 259 (including those aboard the cruise ship).


There are also 14 Korean crew members and passengers aboard the cruise ship, but none have been infected with COVID-19.
