[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is taking proactive measures to revive the local commercial district, which has been weakened due to the impact of COVID-19, by conducting infection prevention and local economic revitalization campaigns together with residents.
As the first step, the Women's Federation Council of the district launched the "Save Our Local Commercial District" campaign at 5 p.m. on the 14th.
About 20 members, including Kim Misun, president of the Women's Federation Council, participated in this campaign and visited the Yeongdeungpo Traditional Market, which has a long history.
The members shopped together at the market and dined at nearby restaurants to support the revival of the local commercial district.
They also distributed COVID-19 prevention guideline leaflets and masks to residents visiting the traditional market, promoted preventive activities, and urged them to use neighborhood shops and restaurants.
Going forward, the district plans to promote various local commercial district revitalization campaigns in cooperation with social and professional organizations composed of local residents.
These include "Traditional Market Day," where nine representative professional organizations of Yeongdeungpo each visit a traditional market to shop and dine, and "Finding Our Neighborhood's Best Restaurants," where 13 to 18 professional organizations from each neighborhood visit local restaurants.
In addition, the district has significantly expanded the closure days of its in-house cafeterias from once a month to eight times a month (every Tuesday and Friday) to boost sales at nearby restaurants and accelerate the use of the local currency "Yeongdeungpo Love Gift Certificates."
Furthermore, on the 25th, the district plans to hold the "Harmony Market" in front of the district office, with participation from local traditional markets and shopping districts, putting full effort into revitalizing the local commercial district.
Also, Chae Hyun-il, the mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, who has actively stepped forward for local economic revitalization, started the "Save the Alley Commercial District" challenge on the evening of the 13th by having samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) with staff at a nearby restaurant and posting certification photos and support messages on social media.
Mayor Chae Hyun-il of Yeongdeungpo-gu said, "I thank the members of the Women's Federation Council who have taken the lead in revitalizing the local commercial district through the traditional market revival campaign," and added, "We will actively support not only professional organizations but also all residents to participate in protecting the local commercial district from COVID-19."
