[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] Over 400 cats were found trapped in cages at a house in Busan, prompting the police to launch an investigation.

On the 14th, the Busan Southern Police Station announced that they are investigating two individuals, including homeowner A (60), following a report from the Suyeong District Office about unauthorized cat breeding and sales in a residential area.

On the 13th, the police conducted a search of a two-story house in Suyeong-gu, Busan, and confirmed that over 400 cats were confined in cages.

According to the police, dozens of cages were stacked in a space of about 40 pyeong (approximately 132 square meters), with various breeds of cats trapped inside.

The Suyeong District Office reportedly requested the investigation, suspecting that A and others were illegally breeding and selling cats.

The police handed over the over 400 cats to an animal protection center along with animal protection inspectors.

The police are investigating charges including unregistered animal breeding, unauthorized sales operations, and animal cruelty.
