[Asia Economy Reporters Lee Ji-eun, Kim Hye-min] Jeong Un-cheon, a lawmaker who left the New Conservative Party, has chosen to join the Mirae Korea Party.
On the 14th, the Mirae Korea Party announced that it had recruited Jeong as a party supreme council member.
The Mirae Korea Party stated, "Jeong is the only conservative party lawmaker from the Honam region and started as a full-time farmer, later serving as the inaugural Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries under the Lee Myung-bak administration, making him a distinguished figure," adding, "He has walked a thorny path for conservatism in Honam over the past decade."
They continued, "The Mirae Korea Party will overcome the disastrous regional barriers and, led by Jeong, further secure support in the Honam area while establishing conservative roots there to become a truly nationwide party," and added, "In the National Assembly, Jeong, who has demonstrated his capabilities as an agricultural expert and represented the hardships and concerns of farmers, will play an even greater role for our agricultural sector in the future."
