[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Park Sun-mi] In Hubei Province, China, the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak, 4,823 new confirmed cases and 116 new deaths were reported in one day.


On the 14th, the Hubei Provincial Health Commission (Weiguanwei) announced that as of midnight, 4,823 new COVID-19 confirmed cases were added in Hubei Province. Among them, 3,095 cases were classified as clinically diagnosed cases. During the day, 116 additional deaths were recorded, including 8 clinically diagnosed cases. Among the deaths, 88 new fatalities were reported in Wuhan City alone.


Clinically diagnosed cases refer to those classified as confirmed based on lung CT scans even if nucleic acid tests do not yield positive results. Since the previous day, Hubei Province has included clinically diagnosed cases as confirmed cases according to the new standard and has been reporting them accordingly.


In cumulative totals, the number of confirmed patients in Hubei Province has reached 51,986 (including 15,384 clinically diagnosed cases). Among these, 35,991 patients are from Wuhan City.


Among the cumulative confirmed cases, 36,719 patients are currently receiving treatment in hospitals, with 7,593 in severe condition and 1,685 in critical condition, indicating that the death toll is expected to continue rising. The number of suspected cases is 6,169, and among 166,818 cumulative close contacts, 77,685 are currently under medical observation.


Considering that the cumulative death toll announced by Hubei Province the previous morning was 1,310, a total of 1,426 people have died from COVID-19 infection within Hubei Province so far.
