First Week to Release 20,000 Units
Foldable Phone Popularization and Fashionization...Targeting 5 Million Units
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Samsung Electronics' clamshell phone 'Galaxy Z Flip' will be released domestically today. Samsung Electronics aims to produce 5 million units, more than the 'Galaxy Fold' released last year, with about 20,000 units expected to be available in the first week.
According to the industry on the 14th, Samsung Electronics and the three mobile carriers will start selling the Galaxy Z Flip online and offline from 9 a.m. today. Online channels such as Samsung.com and Coupang will also sell unlocked units starting today.
The mobile telecommunications industry estimates that about 20,000 units, combining the three carriers' and unlocked units, will be released domestically during the first week of the Galaxy Z Flip launch. Although the quantity is limited and not all dealerships will be able to sell the Galaxy Z Flip, it is expected that the shortage will not be as severe as before.
Since opening the foldable phone market with the Galaxy Fold last year, Samsung Electronics is focusing on popularizing and fashionizing foldable phones with the Galaxy Z Flip. The key battleground for the Galaxy Z Flip is expected to be 'targeting women's hearts.' The Galaxy Z Flip, which folds up and down, transforms into a palm-sized cosmetics compact (portable makeup tool) when folded, and the smartphone exterior is expected to feature vibrant colors such as purple, earning it the reputation of a 'smartphone aimed at capturing women's hearts.'
An electronics industry official said, "The Galaxy Z Flip is attracting more consumer interest than the Galaxy S20 due to its lower price and distinctive design compared to its predecessor."
