Substantial Increase in Boiler Replacement Subsidy for Low-Income Households from 200,000 to 500,000 Won... Enhancing Resident Convenience through Relaxed Eligibility and Improved Application Procedures
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) announced that it will significantly expand support for the installation of low-NOx (eco-friendly condensing) boilers for households in 2020 as part of its eco-friendly green growth project.
A low-NOx boiler refers to a product certified by the Environmental Industry Technology Institute's environmental label, which has higher thermal efficiency than a regular boiler and reduces fine dust emissions to one-eighth of the usual level.
The district provides 200,000 KRW support for general households when installing or replacing low-NOx boilers, which are effective in reducing fine dust. For low-income households, the subsidy has been significantly increased from 200,000 KRW to 500,000 KRW, and the support target has been expanded from residential to commercial use.
As a result, facilities for vulnerable groups such as daycare centers and senior centers, which previously did not receive support, as well as commercial facilities such as dormitories and study rooms (excluding public institutions and public facilities), can now receive subsidies when replacing old boilers with eco-friendly boilers.
Additionally, the subsidy payment target has changed from the purchaser (individual) to the supplier (business operator), and the application procedure has changed from after installation to before installation of the boiler.
Now, boiler purchasers can contract with suppliers for the amount after deducting the subsidy, and suppliers install the boiler after receiving 'subsidy payment confirmation,' making it easier to apply for subsidies.
Any resident living in Gwanak-gu can apply, and the project volume for the first half of this year is about 2,800 units, with support provided until the budget is exhausted.
From April 3, 2020, the obligation to manufacture, sell, and use eco-friendly boilers will be enforced, allowing only the installation of household low-NOx (eco-friendly) boilers.
Mayor Park Jun-hee said, "If you plan to install or replace a boiler, we hope you take this opportunity to switch to a low-NOx boiler to save heating costs and protect your family's health from fine dust."
