Since 2012, the district has introduced resident participatory budgeting, guaranteeing resident participation throughout the entire process from project proposal to selection and evaluation, continuously expanding and strengthening the transparency and democracy of the budget.

In particular, this year, the submission period has been extended to twice as long as last year to discover more life-centered projects and encourage voluntary resident participation.

This contest consists of a total of 2.5 billion KRW, including 500 million KRW for district-level general projects, 1 billion KRW for neighborhood specialized projects, and 1 billion KRW for neighborhood-level general projects, which will be reflected in next year's district budget.

The eligible projects include ▲ projects essential to the village such as housing, environment, transportation, and welfare ▲ improvement of daily inconveniences ▲ projects that help the community or benefit many people. However, projects supporting specific organizations or programs, installation of security CCTV, festival hosting, and projects that can be conducted with educational expenses are excluded from selection.

Any resident of Dongjak-gu can propose projects by visiting or mailing to the District Office Planning and Coordination Division (☎820-1219,1661) or the neighborhood community centers. Applications can also be submitted via the person in charge's email (hyung001@dongjak.go.kr) and the district website.

By the end of July, the district will conduct preliminary review and evaluation of the submitted proposals based on ▲ feasibility ▲ timeliness ▲ budget appropriateness ▲ project effectiveness by the relevant departments and the Resident Participatory Budget Committee, and make the final selection through electronic voting (M-Voting) held from August 17 to 29.

Hyun-ho Kim, head of the Planning and Coordination Division, said, "We hope that this contest will discover projects that resolve residents' daily inconveniences and contribute to regional development," and added, "We look forward to active participation from interested residents."

Last year, through the selection of resident participatory budget projects, the district is promoting a total of 2.3 billion KRW across 58 projects, including ▲ creating a walking path lined with Ippap trees in Seoul ▲ installing automatic snow removal devices on school routes ▲ creating wider safe school routes.
