Two Foreigners Caught in Spain for Turning Gangwon Land Slot Machines Kangwon Land.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] Two of the three suspects who stole a box containing tens of millions of won in cash from Kangwon Land and fled overseas were apprehended in Spain.

The National Police Agency's Foreign Affairs Bureau announced on the 13th that the two suspects, who are Peruvian nationals, were arrested at Madrid Airport in Spain.

They are accused of taking out a cash box containing 24 million won from a slot machine at Kangwon Land Casino in Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon Province, at around 6:55 p.m. the day after entering the country through Incheon International Airport on the 6th, placing it in a pre-prepared bag, and fleeing (special theft).

It was confirmed that they fled to Spain via Bangkok, Thailand, and Qatar. The National Police Agency successfully apprehended them quickly through cooperation with Interpol offices in Thailand, Qatar, and Spain, the Interpol Command & Coordinator Center (CCC), and Police Superintendent Kim Seung-cheol, who is stationed as a liaison officer in Spain. They are currently detained at a local detention facility, and the police plan to proceed with the extradition process in consultation with the Ministry of Justice.

A police official explained, "Since they were banned from entering casinos in the Philippines and found it difficult to commit crimes there, they entered Korea and committed the crime the next day, suggesting they are habitual thieves."

The police are tracking the other suspect, a Hong Kong national who has not yet been apprehended, and plan to arrest him in cooperation with Interpol. Additionally, to prevent similar crimes, they applied for a 'Purple Notice' with Interpol to share information on the criminal methods with 194 member countries.
