This year marks the 50th anniversary of Bando Construction, whose Chairman Kwon Hong-sa is unveiling ‘THE BORA 3170,’ a large-scale Korean-style luxury residential-commercial complex apartment located in the heart of Koreatown, Los Angeles. This overseas expansion comes nine years after the successful completion of the ‘Dubai U-Bora Tower’ project in 2011, drawing significant attention from the industry.

In particular, although the U.S. construction market has posed high entry barriers for Korean construction companies due to stringent permits and administrative procedures, Chairman Kwon, noting the second construction boom driven by major development opportunities such as the 2028 Olympics, personally visited several locations including LA, San Francisco, and New York to closely examine market infrastructure, permits, administrative processes, and project feasibility, ultimately selecting LA for Bando Construction’s first U.S. project.

Until now, some domestic construction companies entering the U.S. market have often engaged only in simple development projects or sold land and exited. Therefore, the industry is paying close attention to Bando Construction’s approach of directly managing land acquisition, permits, construction, and supply.

Bando Construction has chosen the project name ‘THE BORA’ to continue the reputation of the ‘U-Bora’ brand in the U.S. and plans to introduce a residential-commercial complex apartment that integrates Korea’s advanced housing construction technology, cutting-edge construction methods, and Bando Construction’s unique specialized designs.

‘THE BORA 3170’ is located at 3170 W. Olympic Blvd, LA, CA 9006, in central LA. The complex will consist of one basement floor and eight above-ground floors, totaling 252 units. Various commercial facilities within the complex, outdoor swimming pool, barbecue area, fitness center, and lounges on each floor will provide diverse relaxation spaces and amenities. The location is also highly regarded as it sits in the center of LA Koreatown, just 10 minutes east to Downtown, 15 minutes west to Beverly Hills, and 10 minutes north to Hollywood. The nearby Highway 110 also offers excellent transportation connectivity to surrounding areas.

Multi-family housing in LA typically has fewer than 100 units on average, and most are over 30 years old. News of a large-scale new apartment complex is reportedly attracting significant interest from local residents.

Meanwhile, ‘THE BORA 3170’ is scheduled for completion in May 2022.
