[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 12th, the Minjung Party criticized Ahn Cheol-soo, the Preparatory Committee Chairman of the People’s Party, saying, “Stop hijacking the orange color.”

Lee Eun-hye, spokesperson for the Minjung Party, said in a briefing that day, “The People’s Party is said to use orange as their party color,” and added, “Even though the Minjung Party, a parliamentary party, has been using this color for three years, they unilaterally decided and announced it without any consultation or understanding.”

She pointed out, “The Minjung Party was very embarrassed but first tried to persuade through dialogue. Yesterday, Lee Sang-gyu, the Minjung Party’s standing representative, proposed a meeting with Chairman Ahn regarding this issue,” and “However, Chairman Ahn’s side rejected it, saying, ‘The Minjung Party uses orange, but we use orange color. A meeting between representatives over such a matter is unnecessary.’”

She added, “Even children’s storybooks say that orange is orange color,” and “It is awkward to say to Chairman Ahn, who insists otherwise, that he should go back and retake elementary school art classes.”

The spokesperson said, “The Minjung Party has built the party from the ground up over the past three years with the sweat and blood of its members. The People’s Party’s hijacking of the orange color is like a large conglomerate invading the market established by small merchants,” and “What is the difference between this and the unfair practices of large corporations when a famous figure like ‘Ahn Cheol-soo’ takes away the image nurtured by a small party? Is that the fairness Chairman Ahn talks about?”

She added, “Orange has been the representative symbolic color of progressives from the Democratic Labor Party to the Minjung Party,” and “Seeing Chairman Ahn take green from the Green Party during the People’s Party era and now take orange from the Minjung Party, I suspect this is a decision for progressive cosplay rather than a genuine one.”
