Experiencing the Galaxy S20
Significant Camera Specs Upgrade... Improved Zoom Function
When You Want to Capture Both Photos and Videos, Use 'Single Take Mode'
[San Francisco (USA) = Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] This year, Samsung Electronics launched the Galaxy S20 equipped with a camera. As the absolute criterion for choosing a smartphone, camera-related specifications have been significantly enhanced. Although the first impression was not much different from the previous model, the camera-related features caught attention.
On the 11th (local time), Samsung Electronics unveiled the Galaxy S20 at the 'Galaxy Unpacked 2020' event in San Francisco, USA. The Galaxy S20 series focuses on resolving the long-standing camera-related concerns of smartphone users. Unusually, the rear camera appeared in the product promotional images.
The most noticeable difference in appearance from the previous model is the position of the camera. The front camera of the Galaxy S20 series has been moved to the center top of the screen. All rear cameras adopt an induction design. While the S10 had cameras arranged horizontally in the center top, the S20 moved all cameras to the left. Due to the protruding camera design, the top part of the smartphone is slightly higher even when laid flat.
Looking at the lens arrangement of the Galaxy S20 and S20+, from the top left, there is a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 12MP wide-angle camera, and a 64MP telephoto camera. The Galaxy S20+ includes a depth vision camera on the right side for measuring depth. The S20 is suitable for those who want to share experiences through photos or videos in daily life, while the S20 Ultra is appropriate for those who require professional-level performance.
The Galaxy S20 Ultra, which has the most advanced camera specifications, features a quad camera. From the top left, it includes a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 108MP wide-angle camera, and a 48MP telephoto camera, with a depth vision camera on the right. Notably, the Ultra's zoom function has been greatly improved, supporting optical zoom up to 10x and AI-based super-resolution zoom from 10x up to 100x. The super-resolution zoom on the S20 and S20+ supports up to 30x. When zooming in on a flowerpot with the S20 Ultra, the leaf veins were captured clearly without distortion.
When you want to take both photos and videos, the 'Single Take Mode' is useful. In the Galaxy's default camera app, select Single Take Mode instead of photo mode and press the shutter to record a video. AI recommends the best scenes from the video and even selects suitable filters for the photos. After one recording, it suggests up to 4 videos and 10 photos as the best shots. This feature is ideal for capturing both photos and videos of active subjects like children or pets.
The Galaxy S20 is released as a 5G model and comes pre-installed with Google's video call app 'Duo,' supporting full HD video calling for the first time. The screen is clearer with a 120Hz refresh rate, and the RAM specification has been improved to 12GB compared to the previous model. The battery performance of the Galaxy S20 has also significantly increased. The Galaxy S20 has a 4000mAh battery, 600mAh larger than the Galaxy S10. The Galaxy S20+ has a 4500mAh battery, 400mAh larger than the Galaxy S10+. The Galaxy S20 Ultra has a 5000mAh battery.
The Galaxy S20 series will be released starting March 6, with pre-orders in Korea from the 20th to the 26th. The Galaxy S20 128GB model is priced at 1,248,500 KRW, the Galaxy S20+ 256GB model at 1,353,000 KRW, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra 256GB model at 1,595,000 KRW.
