[San Francisco (USA) = Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics unveiled the new smartphone 'Galaxy S20' series, precisely targeting consumers thirsty for smartphone cameras. It is a 'camera phone' that will satisfy everyone from consumers who have made photo and video sharing a daily habit to those who want professional-level cameras. To respond to global 5G smartphone demand, all models are released with 5G, focusing on the 'basics' such as camera, display, and RAM.

On the 11th (local time), Samsung Electronics held 'Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2020' at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, USA, with over 3,000 global partners and media attendees, unveiling the 'Galaxy S20'.

Samsung Electronics' Mobile Communications Business President (CEO) No Tae-moon said, "The new decade will completely change the way people communicate and experience the world," adding, "Galaxy S20 is equipped with the latest 5G mobile communication and AI camera with ultra-high-resolution image sensors, enabling users to express themselves, share, and communicate through photos and videos."

Significantly Enhanced Camera Specifications with AI Integration

Samsung Electronics named the model Galaxy S20 instead of S11 to welcome a new era with the convergence of 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Internet of Things (IoT). The Galaxy S20 series consists of three models: ▲6.2-inch Galaxy S20 ▲6.7-inch Galaxy S20 Plus ▲6.9-inch Galaxy S20 Ultra. The Galaxy S20 Ultra is equipped with a 108-megapixel camera, while the S20 and S20+ have a 64-megapixel main camera. The image sensor size, which determines camera performance, is improved by 2.9 times compared to the S10 for the Ultra, and 1.65 times for the S20 and S20+.

The Galaxy S20 is a model that emphasizes the 'camera.' By combining the largest-ever image sensor with AI, it can capture clear photos with detailed clarity in any environment. The S20 Ultra applies a folded lens, allowing 10x zoom without image quality degradation and supports 'Space Zoom' up to 100x magnification. The Galaxy S20 and S20+ can shoot photos up to 3x zoom, and the Ultra up to 10x zoom without quality loss. Especially, the Galaxy S20 Ultra can take clear photos even in dark environments thanks to nona-binning technology, which merges nine pixels into one to capture more light.

Not only the camera specifications have been improved, but the AI-integrated camera software features also attract attention. The 'Single Take' function uses multiple lenses simultaneously to capture photos and videos, recommending the best shot by capturing the best moment. This is useful when photographing children or pets. Additionally, it supports 8K video recording and allows uploading 8K videos to YouTube. Users can capture desired scenes from videos to obtain clear high-resolution images. The 'Super Steady Mode,' which stabilizes shaky videos using AI, has also been improved.

Responding to 5G Demand... Prices at 1,240,000 KRW, 1,350,000 KRW, and 1,590,000 KRW

All three Galaxy S20 models support 5G communication. This is to respond to the demand as 5G smartphones are expected to account for 18% of total smartphone shipments this year. The Galaxy S20 supports the latest 5G standard and Standalone mode (with near-zero latency), enabling seamless enjoyment of 8K video streaming or uploading, video calls, and high-spec mobile games. Depending on the 5G network infrastructure in each country, it supports both low-frequency (Sub-6) and ultra-high-frequency (mmWave) bands simultaneously.

The display refresh rate has been improved to 120Hz, resulting in clearer image quality and smoother high-spec gaming. In collaboration with Microsoft, the PC game 'Forza Street' is provided for the first time on mobile via the 'Galaxy S20.'

The Galaxy S20 series will be sequentially released in global markets starting March 6. In Korea, pre-orders will be held from February 20 to 26. The Galaxy S20 comes with 128GB storage and is priced at 1,248,500 KRW. It will be available in Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue, Cloud White, and Cloud Pink colors.

The Galaxy S20+ is released with 256GB storage and priced at 1,353,000 KRW. It comes in five colors: Cosmic Grey, Cloud Blue, Cloud White, Aura Red, and Aura Blue. The Galaxy S20 Ultra also comes with 256GB storage and is priced at 1,595,000 KRW. It is available in two colors: Cosmic Grey and Cosmic Black.

Galaxy Buds+ with Improved Sound Quality and Battery Life

Samsung Electronics also unveiled the wireless earphones 'Galaxy Buds+' with improved battery life and sound quality.

With enhanced battery specifications, the Galaxy Buds+ can play music for up to 11 hours on a single charge, and with additional charging via the case, up to 22 hours of music playback is possible. The usage time is nearly doubled compared to the previous model.

Equipped with dynamic 2-way speakers, the volume is richer. Utilizing AKG's audio technology, the dynamic 2-way speakers separate tweeters and woofers to provide a richer sound experience. It also features three microphones to deliver clear call quality. Additionally, the Galaxy Buds+ supports not only Android but also iOS, allowing users to use them regardless of their smartphone model.

The 'Galaxy Buds+' will be officially released on the 14th in black, white, and blue colors, priced at 179,300 KRW. Online pre-orders will be held from the 12th to the 13th on Samsung Electronics' website, Naver Shopping, Coupang, 11st, and other open markets.
