[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] The government will invest approximately 10 billion KRW this year to fully launch the 5G-based Digital Twin Public Leading Project.
According to the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 11th, the 5G-based Digital Twin Public Leading Project is a project aimed at supporting the creation of an initial 5G market by pioneering the application of new technologies such as 5G mobile communication and digital twin to public facilities owned by government agencies and local governments, as well as industrial facilities of companies, and fostering a private-led intelligent information service industry.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to select and support two tasks (about 9.5 billion KRW) through an open competition this year. Participation is open to consortia composed of government agencies, local governments, and companies with safety management demands utilizing digital twin technology, as well as companies involved in related technology, service implementation, and demonstration. Digital twin refers to a technology that implements an environment identical to the real world in a virtual space, enabling organic linkage by utilizing new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).
Park Yoon-kyu, Director of Information and Communication Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “By actively introducing ICT convergence new technologies such as 5G technology and digital twin to public and industrial facilities, we will contribute to securing the safety of the people and the golden time through real-time safety management systems.”
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to discover leading models of intelligent information services applying 5G and digital twin technologies through this demonstration project, promote early dissemination of results, induce private investment, and lay the foundation for creating achievements in innovative growth based on D.N.A (Data, Network, AI).
