Busan Unexpectedly Flooded... Water Main Pipe Burst on Road

Road Damage, Two Buildings Flooded

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] In the early morning of the 7th, a water main pipe burst on a road in Busan, flooding two buildings.

According to the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, at 4:19 a.m. that day, a water main pipe buried under a road in Bugok-dong, Geumjeong-gu, Busan, burst, turning a 250-meter section of the road near Jangjeon Bridge into a sea of water. Due to this accident, part of the road was damaged, and the police are controlling vehicle access in the accident area.

The water from the burst pipe flowed into the interiors of two nearby commercial buildings, flooding underground parking lots and other areas. The Busan Waterworks Headquarters and fire authorities are working at the accident site to stop the water leakage and carry out restoration work such as replacing the water main pipe. They also drained 50 tons of water that had flowed into the flooded commercial buildings.

The police and the Waterworks Headquarters believe the accident was caused by the rupture of an aging water main pipe and are investigating the exact circumstances.
