[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) is temporarily closing and shortening the operating hours of multi-use facilities such as gyms and libraries operated by the district to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection as the number of cases increases in the community.
Additionally, educational programs and events at community centers are temporarily postponed.
According to this measure, the operation of five public sports facilities frequently used by residents (Mapo Residents Sports Center, Yeomni Life Sports Center, Seongmisan Sports Center, Mangwon Yusuji Futsal Field, Wausan Badminton Court) has been suspended.
Also, lifestyle sports programs operated by the district, including ▲Children’s Soccer Class ▲Youth Futsal Class ▲Visiting Lifestyle Sports Service ▲Youth Athlete Development Program, have been sequentially suspended since the 31st of last month.
A total of 11 libraries, including Haneul Library, Mapo Purme Children’s Library, and nine small libraries, have been temporarily closed since the 4th, while two English libraries (Mapo and Kkumnarae) are operating limited English program paid courses. To minimize inconvenience caused by sudden closures, book returns through external return boxes at each library are available at all times.
Mapo Central Library and Seogang Library have shortened their operating hours for all reading rooms from the usual 10 PM to 6 PM. To protect the health of users, these two libraries conduct temperature checks and hand sanitization before entry to the reading rooms, making efforts to prevent the novel coronavirus infection.
In particular, Mapo Central Library operates a ‘Fact Check! Novel Coronavirus Infection Information Service Corner’ inside the reading room to alleviate anxiety caused by fake news related to the novel coronavirus and to provide verified information.
Furthermore, all programs at the community centers of the 16 neighborhood offices in the district have been temporarily suspended since the 3rd.
The suspension and shortened operation periods of libraries, public sports facilities, programs (courses), and events may be extended or shortened depending on the infectious disease crisis alert level.
To minimize inconvenience caused by these temporary closures and shortened operations, the district is providing information through pop-up windows on the Mapo-gu Office website (http://www.mapo.go.kr), Mapo-gu SNS (Instagram, Facebook, blog, etc.), bulletin board notices, and individual text messages.
To focus administrative efforts on the novel coronavirus infection, the district has added 11 personnel to the public health center since the 3rd and has shortened some services such as primary care and vaccinations at the health center to operate until 12 PM since the 5th.
This is to reinforce the personnel at the health center’s screening clinic to respond more swiftly to the novel coronavirus infection.
Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, “To completely block the spread of damage caused by the novel coronavirus infection, we have inevitably temporarily suspended or shortened the operation of multi-use facilities, programs, and events. We will do our best to focus all efforts on preventing the spread of the infection until the situation ends so that residents can live with peace of mind as soon as possible.”
