[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] Woori Bank's China branch announced on the 5th that it donated 2 million yuan (approximately 340 million KRW) through the Wuhan Charity Federation to help the Wuhan area in China, which is suffering from the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia).
The donated funds will be used through the Wuhan Charity Federation, the official donation channel for the novel coronavirus in China, for relief supplies support and measures to prevent the spread of infection.
Woori Bank China has been responding by urgently procuring masks and hand sanitizers from Woori Bank during the holiday period when the novel coronavirus began to spread. To prevent the spread of the infection, it is operating flexible business hours focused on essential tasks with minimal personnel.
A Woori Bank China branch official said, "We decided to donate funds to help those suffering from the novel coronavirus situation and the local community even a little, and we will do our best to minimize customer inconvenience and provide financial support through the operation of 21 branches and call centers in China."
In addition to China, Woori Bank has supported masks to branches in Tokyo, Japan, Singapore, and Hong Kong, and has also provided masks to Southeast Asian regions, including 5,000 masks for the Cambodia branch and customers.
Woori Financial Group also announced on the 30th of last month that it plans to donate infection prevention kits worth approximately 100 million KRW to welfare facilities under the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation and the Korea Senior Welfare Center Association.
