Providing Fun in Raising and Collecting Over 100 Characters
Intense Competition Expected with Subculture Games like 'Myeongilbangju'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-kyu Lee] Nexon's first mobile new game of the year, 'CounterSide,' officially launched its service on the 4th.
Developed based on Nexon's new game intellectual property (IP), CounterSide is an urban fantasy role-playing game (RPG) depicting battles between the real world 'NormalSide' and the opposite world 'CounterSide,' offering content that satisfies users' fantasies with attractive game characters.
Over 100 different characters vary in appearance and costumes according to their concepts, providing users with the fun of nurturing and collecting characters. Ryu Geum-tae, CEO, and Park Sang-yeon, director of Studio Bside, which developed CounterSide, expressed their ambition, saying, "Based on the unique worldview where two worlds exist in one city, it will become a mobile subculture game representing Korea." Subculture refers to a game genre emphasizing cute characters in the style of Japanese manga. With the recent popularity of subculture games such as Yostar's 'Arknights,' fierce competition is expected with the release of CounterSide.
Meanwhile, Nexon, which succeeded in gaining popularity last year with the large-scale massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) 'V4,' plans to introduce games based on new IPs in various genres starting with CounterSide this year. Kim Hyun, Vice President of Nexon, said, "We plan to showcase a variety of new IPs, including our own IP-based new titles and new IPs that will become new competitive strengths like V4," adding, "CounterSide will be the first runner responsible for Nexon's quality start, featuring its unique original worldview and immersive story."
