Installation of 'Seoul-Type Electric Vehicle Concentrated Charging Station' in Sinwol-dong, Yangcheon-gu Sinwol-dong Seoul-type Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Station

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] "Even though I want to keep using an electric car for the environment, it’s frustrating to charge it even once. Usually, it takes 4-5 hours to charge at a charging station with a slow charger..." said a resident of Yangcheon-gu who has been using an electric vehicle for three years.

As such, although residents want to use electric vehicles, the charging infrastructure is not sufficiently secured, causing inconvenience.

Accordingly, Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) announced that it has installed a ‘Seoul-type Electric Vehicle Concentrated Charging Station’ in cooperation with Seoul City and the Ministry of Environment to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure and increase the electric vehicle adoption rate.

Last March, the district was selected for the ‘Seoul-type Concentrated Charging Station Construction Project’ and completed a fast charging station for electric vehicles on an idle road site along Garogongwon-ro in Sinwol-dong with a city investment of 200 million KRW.

Also, since January this year, it has signed a consignment contract with a professional operating company and succeeded in building a charging network, which will be opened starting this month.

The chargers installed at the Sinwol-dong charging station include one 50kW charger and two simultaneous charging 100kW chargers, allowing a total of five vehicles to be charged simultaneously. Sinwol-dong is mostly a residential area, and securing land for charging stations is not easy, making this the first case of concentrating multiple electric vehicle chargers in one location.

Additionally, the chargers installed this time are fast chargers that take about 30 minutes to charge, significantly reducing charging time compared to the existing slow chargers that took 4-5 hours.

The charging station operates 24 hours a day, year-round, and provides a call center to resolve malfunctions or inconveniences in real time, linkage with the Ministry of Environment’s charging information system, and regular safety inspections of charging facilities to ensure users can use it safely and conveniently.

A rest area for residents to use while charging has also been prepared.

A representative from the Green Environment Division of Yangcheon-gu Office said, "The spread of electric vehicles greatly contributes to making Yangcheon-gu a clean city free of fine dust. As Yangcheon-gu strives to build charging infrastructure for the green city ECO Yangcheon, we hope local residents will freely use it and consider purchasing electric vehicles."

Information on other electric vehicle charging station locations and support benefits when purchasing electric vehicles can be found on the Yangcheon-gu Office website (www.yangcheon.go.kr).
