Suncheon-si, Total Effort to Prevent Novel Coronavirus Infection

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Institutions and related organizations within Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do, are joining forces to wage an all-out battle to prevent the novel coronavirus infection.

According to Suncheon City on the 3rd, the city held a meeting on the 29th of last month with the heads of four medical organizations including the Suncheon Medical Association and the Pharmaceutical Association, 14 heads of hygiene-related organizations, and heads of departments and townships to respond to the novel coronavirus infection.

Then, on the 31st of last month, an integrated defense council was held, where related institutions such as the Suncheon Office of Education, Suncheon Police Station, and Suncheon Fire Station are preparing measures to understand their respective duties and actively respond.

Along with this, Suncheon City has indefinitely postponed scheduled dialogues with citizens from the 3rd to the 13th, while each township and hygiene organization is independently promoting prevention guidelines. They are making every effort to prevent any negligence in infectious disease response by promoting prevention rules in multi-use places such as stations, terminals, and in front of City Hall, as well as every corner of residences of vulnerable groups.

The city first instructed local daycare centers to prohibit field trip materials and external visitors, and to take the maximum possible preventive measures on-site, such as checking the temperature of children upon arrival and providing hand sanitizers.

Also, for the elderly who are vulnerable to the virus, senior welfare centers and others are strengthening on-site preventive activities such as promoting prevention guidelines, providing hand sanitizers, and distributing masks to seniors.

A Suncheon City Public Health Center official said, “Since the virus mainly infects through mucous membranes, it is important not to touch your eyes, nose, and mouth,” and urged, “When going out, wear a mask and thoroughly wash your hands with soap under running water for more than 30 seconds,” emphasizing the importance of following prevention rules.

If you have any questions related to infectious diseases or develop symptoms such as fever or cough after visiting China, please call the Suncheon City Public Health Center.
