'Rookie of the Year Candidate' Gu Bonseung Announces Retirement on SNS... [Asia Economy Intern Reporter Lim Juhyung] Gu Bonseung (23), who is active in the men's professional volleyball team Korea Electric Power Corporation, announced his sudden retirement decision through his social network service (SNS) account.


On the 31st of last month, Gu Bonseung posted on his Instagram, "I feel like I have to say something before leaving," and stated, "Volleyball is a team sport, but I think I have had difficulty adapting since I was young. It was so hard that I wanted to give up everything I had built up until now."


He added, "I do not regret the decision I made," and said, "If given the chance, I will try to come back. Even if I am not a volleyball player, I might appear in a different form."


Gu Bonseung made his professional volleyball debut after being selected by Korea Electric Power Corporation as the first pick in the 3rd round of the 2019?2020 Dodram V-League men's rookie draft held in September last year.


He played in 19 games this season, scoring 166 points with an attack success rate of 48.41%, and was known to be one of the candidates for Rookie of the Year.
