[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] While stealth-equipped fighter jets are evolving, radar development to detect stealth objects is also active.
According to the 'Defense Science and Technology Survey' published on the 31st by the Defense Technology Quality Institute, the United States is developing a 6th-generation fighter jet. This fighter jet is being developed with advanced stealth airframe improvements without tail wings and will be equipped with an engine capable of hypersonic flight and supersonic cruising.
It is also planned to be equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) and cyber warfare response technologies, as well as technology to command dozens of swarm drones in the air.
Russia has also started developing 6th-generation manned and unmanned fighter jets. They will be equipped with wireless photon radar, AI technology, hypersonic engines, and laser weapons. Stealth unmanned combat aircraft are also under development.
France, together with Germany and Spain, is developing the 6th-generation fighter jet and the unmanned combat aircraft Neuron (nEUROn). China is developing an unmanned combat aircraft (AVIC 601-S) with a low probability of radar detection and is conducting flight tests.
Japan is evaluated as a country with high potential for military unmanned aircraft development, demonstrating a prototype unmanned aircraft capable of measuring reconnaissance drone levels.
Weapon powers are also intensifying efforts to develop radars that can detect stealth aircraft.
The United States is conducting research and development to detect stealth objects and recently developed and operates radar that detects stealth aircraft. It has also developed foliage-penetrating radar. The U.S. Navy has installed and deployed the SPY-3 radar, which automatically detects and tracks multiple cruise missiles flying close to the sea surface for attack, on destroyers. It has developed SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) equipment and signal processing techniques capable of detecting surface waves caused by underwater object movement, applying them to manned and unmanned aircraft such as the high-altitude unmanned Global Hawk.
