[Asia Economy Guest Reporter Kang Hyesoo] On the 30th, the third story of Hongjedong's 'Munhwachon Alley' was featured on SBS entertainment program 'Baek Jong-won's Alley Restaurant,' capturing viewers' attention.
Baek Jong-won asked whether to choose the traditional method of adding red bean base to the water used to boil ongshimi, or his own method of adding separately boiled ongshimi into the red bean base without water. This was because adding water results in a less deep and rich flavor.
However, the next day, the red bean kalguksu owner said, "My mother told me to boil the ongshimi and add red beans so that they blend well," and "She told me to add only a little water and boil the ongshimi while adding the red bean base," showing that he was not abandoning the traditional method, which frustrated Baek Jong-won.
Also, after trying ongshimi made with domestic red beans instead of the previously used Chinese red beans as Baek Jong-won's suggestion, he admitted that the domestic red bean ongshimi was more delicious but expressed reluctance due to the higher cost. Then, he embarrassed Baek Jong-won by asking where to buy domestic red beans.
Baek Jong-won assigned homework to "figure out how many bowls of red bean porridge come from 1kg," but the red bean kalguksu owner showed a brazen attitude by asking for the secret recipe. Eventually, Baek Jong-won got angry, saying, "You two have to put in the effort and learn for years, but I taught you everything," and "The secret is not about what you add, but this kind of thing."
SBS's 'Baek Jong-won's Alley Restaurant' airs every Wednesday at 11:10 PM.
