Korea Selected as Guest of Honor Country at Global Broadcasting Content Event 'MIPTV' MIPTV 2020 Host Country Logo and Slogan

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] South Korea will participate as the guest of honor at a global broadcasting content video event.

The Korea Communications Commission announced on the 30th that South Korea has been selected as the guest of honor for the broadcasting content video market "MIPTV 2020," which will be held in Cannes, France, from March 30 to April 2.

MIPTV is the world's largest broadcasting content video market, with participants including broadcasters from over 100 countries, 2,800 broadcasting companies, and around 10,000 broadcasting professionals. It is held annually in Cannes, France. The event organizer, Reed MIDEM, selected South Korea as the guest of honor this year. The Korea Communications Commission has been preparing for participation as the guest of honor at MIPTV to ensure that the Korean Wave in broadcasting continues to expand and make a leap forward beyond the Asian market to the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.

At this guest of honor event, the Korea Communications Commission plans to focus on promoting the creativity, excellence, and production capabilities of Korean broadcasting content to broadcasting content experts worldwide. It also intends to support practical production investments, broadcasting content sales, and export contracts. Considering that Korean broadcasting content is at an important point of global advancement, the slogan has been set as "Korea, Story Connects Us," meaning "Korea connects with the world" and "Korea meets the world."

During the event, a Swiss professional consulting firm will introduce "Fresh TV KOREA," which focuses on currently popular or trending Korean broadcasting content from the perspective of foreign experts. A conference will also be held on topics such as successful cases of Korean Wave broadcasting content overseas expansion, cases of entry into new platforms like Over-The-Top (OTT) services and future blueprints, and global joint collaboration strategies.

Business networking will be arranged so that domestic broadcasters and production companies can receive investment or purchase contracts from overseas production and distribution companies. Events will also be held where domestic broadcasting operators directly introduce and promote their project plans to major overseas distributors and distribution officials. Close cooperation is planned with related ministries participating in MIPTV 2020, such as the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Han Sang-hyuk, chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, said, "We are pleased that South Korea is participating as the guest of honor at the world's largest broadcasting video market and showcasing our excellent broadcasting content to the world," adding, "We look forward to creating cooperative models in various fields such as broadcasting content production and distribution hand in hand with the world."
