Three Broadcasters That Did Not Air Disaster Broadcasts Last Year Fined 30 Million Won

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The Korea Communications Commission imposed a total fine of 30 million KRW on three local broadcasters that did not air disaster broadcasts in the first and second quarters of last year.

On the 29th, the KCC held the 6th plenary meeting at the Government Complex Gwacheon and decided to impose a fine of 15 million KRW on Jeju Munhwa Broadcasting, and 7.5 million KRW each on Busan English Broadcasting Foundation and Maeil Broadcasting.

According to Article 40, Paragraph 2 of the Framework Act on Broadcasting and Communications Development, the government can request broadcasters to air disaster broadcasts, and broadcasters must air disaster broadcasts unless there are special reasons.

The Korea Communications Standards Commission checked the disaster broadcast status of 68 broadcasters including terrestrial, general programming PP, and news PP in the first and second quarters of last year, and after the KCC conducted a fact-finding investigation, it was revealed that Jeju Munhwa Broadcasting, Busan English Broadcasting Foundation, and Maeil Broadcasting did not air disaster broadcasts on February 10, January 9, and June 6 of last year, respectively.

At the meeting, the commission also approved four corporations?Kyungsung Technology, Textory, Biskit, and Dasan Kais?as personal location information providers. Except for Dasan Kais, the other three corporations collect location information of children going to and from school or infants and toddlers to notify guardians of attendance or provide child-finding services.
