Seoul National University Suspends Professor Cho Kuk's Position... "Difficult to Conduct Normal Lectures"
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] On the 29th, Seoul National University decided to suspend the position of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk from the law school, and former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon pointed out that "'position suspension' is not a disciplinary action."
In a post on his Facebook on the 29th, former professor Jin said, "It is certainly not a guilty verdict. It is merely one of the administrative procedures taken by the school to guarantee students' right to classes when it is judged that the professor's lectures cannot be conducted normally due to various circumstances."
He continued, "Disciplinary action is probably an issue to be discussed after a court ruling," emphasizing, "Until guilt is confirmed, Mr. Cho Kuk will continue to hold his professorship under the presumption of innocence."
On the same day, Seoul National University took the position suspension measure against former Minister Cho Kuk, who was prosecuted on charges including family corruption and suppression of inspection.
Seoul National University stated, "We judged that it is difficult for former Professor Cho Kuk, who has been indicted in a criminal case, to perform his duties normally, and decided to suspend his position as of the 29th in accordance with relevant regulations."
They added, "This is an administrative measure to suspend the professor's duties, taken because it was judged that normal lecture progress is difficult," but also explained, "At this point, it was judged difficult to refer the case to the disciplinary committee."
