KMA: "Natural Earthquake and Induced Earthquake"
North Korea's Punggye-ri, Kilju County, Conducted in September 2017
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] At around 9:33 AM on the 29th, a magnitude 2.5 earthquake occurred 41 km north-northwest of Kilju, Hamgyongbuk-do, North Korea.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the earthquake's epicenter was at 41.29°N latitude and 129.11°E longitude.
This earthquake is a natural earthquake, presumed to be an induced earthquake caused by North Korea's 6th nuclear test in 2017. Induced earthquakes are a type of natural earthquake where human activities cause changes in the Earth's crust over time.
The Korea Meteorological Administration stated, "The earthquake occurred about 3 km southeast of the location of the 6th North Korean nuclear test site."
The maximum seismic intensity of this earthquake was 1, and no damage is expected.
North Korea conducted its 6th nuclear test in September 2017 at Punggye-ri, Kilju County, Hamgyongbuk-do. At that time, an artificial earthquake with a magnitude of 5.6 was also recorded.
