KTX via Jangseong Station Surpasses 8,000 Passengers in 3 Months

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] It has been revealed that the number of passengers using Jangseong Station KTX exceeded 8,000 within three months of resuming stops.

In October last year, when the Hwangryonggang Yellow Flower Festival was held, an average of 100 people per day used the KTX.

Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 29th that from September 16, last year, when the KTX stop at Jangseong Station resumed, until December 31, a total of 8,077 passengers traveled on the high-speed train over 107 days.

The average number of users per day during the survey period was 76. Among them, the majority were ‘upbound boarding’ and ‘downbound alighting’ passengers, indicating that KTX was mainly used for travel to and from the Seoul metropolitan area rather than the Mokpo direction.

Also, in October last year, an average of 53 upbound and 47 downbound passengers used the KTX daily, recording ‘an average of 100 passengers per day.’ The county operated the Hwangryonggang Yellow Flower Festival and Flower River outing visitor reception period.

Meanwhile, the KTX stop at Jangseong Station resumed on September 16 last year, after being suspended for about four years and six months due to the opening of the Honam High-Speed Railway.

During that time, about 12,000 Jangseong residents submitted a petition to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korail, and Jangseong County Governor Yoo Doo-seok also met with officials to propose alternatives, making efforts to resume the stop. Currently, four routes (2 upbound, 2 downbound) between Mokpo and Seoul (Yongsan) pass through Jangseong Station.

A county official said, “Recently, weekend taxi users have somewhat increased, and the resumption of KTX stops at Jangseong Station is leading to revitalization of the local economy,” adding, “We plan to continuously promote the use of Jangseong Station KTX in nearby cities, counties, and towns, and strive to increase the number of stops.”
