Yeongdeungpo-gu Holds Emergency Meeting on New Coronavirus Daily Monitoring

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is taking proactive measures against the novel coronavirus infection known as 'Wuhan Pneumonia,' focusing all efforts on complete quarantine measures to block its spread within the district.

On the morning of the 28th, Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Chae Hyun-il convened all related departments to hold an 'Emergency Countermeasure Meeting on Novel Coronavirus Infection,' urging close cooperation between departments and swift responses to fully prevent Wuhan Pneumonia.

On the same day in the afternoon, Mayor Chae visited Gangnam Seongsim Hospital in Daerim-dong, a Seoul-designated base hospital, to check the current situation of Wuhan Pneumonia response and the operation status of the screening clinic, as well as to identify any difficulties.

As of 6 p.m. on the 27th, there have been 4 confirmed cases of Wuhan Pneumonia domestically, 2,794 cases overseas, and 80 deaths.

Accordingly, on the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday, the 27th, the district raised the infectious disease crisis level from 'Caution' to 'Alert,' establishing and operating a 'Disaster Safety Countermeasure Headquarters' led by the Deputy District Mayor to strengthen the pneumonia response system.

Since January 14, one week before any confirmed cases, the district has established the 'Novel Infectious Disease Syndrome (Wuhan Pneumonia) Spread Prevention Measures' and formed a quarantine task force, maintaining a 24-hour emergency contact system in close cooperation with Seoul City and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to promptly assess and respond to suspected cases.

So far, the district quarantine task force has identified a total of 10 individuals under active monitoring (contacts of patients or entrants from Wuhan City). The district has visited their homes directly to provide hygiene supplies such as masks, hand sanitizers, and thermometers, educated them on safety guidelines, and is conducting daily symptom monitoring.

Furthermore, since January 7, the district has sent official notices on Wuhan Pneumonia response procedures to 764 related organizations and medical institutions within the district to strengthen surveillance of symptomatic individuals, and has launched a public campaign across Yeongdeungpo on 'Infectious Disease Prevention Action Guidelines.'

Additionally, 7,400 masks and 2,000 hand sanitizers have been distributed to all 18 community service centers, and the district plans to prevent pneumonia outbreaks through thorough hygiene management and public awareness by sending SMS messages to residents with prevention guidelines for the novel coronavirus infection.

Yeongdeungpo-gu Holds Emergency Meeting on New Coronavirus Daily Monitoring Yeongdeungpo-gu held an "Emergency Meeting on Novel Coronavirus Infection Countermeasures" at 8:30 a.m. on the 28th.

Yeongdeungpo-gu Mayor Chae Hyun-il stated, “We are responding flawlessly with proactive quarantine measures targeting foreigner-dense areas and visitors from China within the district,” adding, “We will do our utmost to completely block the novel coronavirus.”
