[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ki-woon] Amid concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia) in South Korea, Sinan County in Jeonnam has taken proactive measures to prevent its spread.
On the 28th, Sinan County announced that it has postponed all scheduled “Dialogue with Residents” sessions and suspended the Winter Flower (Baby Camellia) Festival to prevent the spread of the “Wuhan pneumonia” that originated in Wuhan, China.
The county has been conducting dialogues with residents in three townships?starting with Anjwa-myeon on the 20th, Imja-myeon on the 21st, and Palgeum-myeon on the 22nd?to present new visions and hear firsthand voices from the field.
The recent “Dialogue with Residents” sessions were well attended, with about 700 residents participating.
County Governor Park said, “Since the novel coronavirus is spreading rapidly through person-to-person contact, we have had to postpone the dialogues with residents as a preemptive measure prioritizing the health of our residents,” and asked for understanding.
The county also decided on the 27th to suspend the Winter Flower (Baby Camellia) Festival on Amhaedo Island, which attracts thousands of visitors on weekends and holidays, and plans to cancel or postpone all events and gatherings.
At the “Novel Coronavirus Infection” countermeasure meeting held directly in the Sinan County Office video conference room that day, the response status of each department was checked, and thorough measures were ordered.
Governor Park Wooryang emphasized, “Screening clinics for the novel coronavirus infection have been established and are operating at the public health center and Sinan Daewoo Hospital. Medical institutions and health agencies in the area must strengthen patient monitoring and verify travel history to China when treating patients with fever or respiratory symptoms.”
Sinan County has placed hand sanitizers and promotional materials in health institutions, medical facilities, and multi-use facilities, and plans to additionally secure and distribute quarantine supplies in preparation for community spread.
A public health center official stated, “For early detection and prevention of spread, it is very important that residents comply with infectious disease prevention guidelines and that medical institutions actively cooperate,” adding, “We will do our best to respond with full force until the situation is resolved.”
