[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City announced on the 28th that it is conducting tests on two suspected cases of the novel coronavirus infection (Wuhan pneumonia) reported in the region.

According to the city, Mr. A (male, in his 30s) worked as a technician in Wuhan City from November 25 last year and returned to Korea on the 17th. He visited the city health center on the 28th with a dry cough symptom. The city health center has currently requested the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to test Mr. A for the novel coronavirus infection.

There was also a suspected case of a male in his 20s in Sejong. Mr. B, who visited Wuhan City on November 22 last year and returned on the 24th of this month, visited the city health center on the 28th with sputum symptoms, similar to Mr. A. The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is currently verifying whether he is infected with the novel coronavirus.

The city expects to receive confirmation of infection for Mr. A and Mr. B from the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention late in the afternoon on the 28th. Until the Lunar New Year holiday, there were no contacts or suspected cases of the novel coronavirus in Sejong. However, with two suspected cases emerging consecutively on this day, the atmosphere of tension regarding the spread of the novel coronavirus is becoming evident.

Meanwhile, to block the spread of the novel coronavirus infection, the city has been operating the ‘City and Health Center Quarantine Task Force’ since the 23rd and is maintaining a 24-hour emergency response system.
